FAQs

Do I need a shooting pad or tiles to use stickhandling balls?

The beauty of stickhandling balls is that they are versatile: you can use them on rubber flooring, carpet, garage floor, or hockey training surfaces like shooting pads or dryland hockey tiles. The balls will roll on all those surfaces and won't get damaged. However, consider whether you need a blade protector for your expensive stick if you are training on a hard gritty surface like concrete or asphalt, so that your stick blade doesn't get chewed up.

Do stickhandling balls actually help my game on the ice?

You bet. The stickhandling balls are engineered to replicate puck feel when you're off the ice. Each ball has a slightly different weight and training objective, allowing the player to focus on having their eyes up, building wrist strength or quickness. Practicing for even a few seconds every day at home or before a game will significantly increase one's puck handling ability when they return back to the ice.

What’s the difference between a stickhandling ball and a dryland puck?

Both products are designed to improve stickhandling while you're off the ice through muscle memory, wrist strength and hand-eye coordination.

However, stickhandling balls offer the opportunity to train on a wider variety of surfaces, such as rubber flooring and carpet, allowing the product to travel with you to the rink and be used as a pre-game warm-up for your hands. The Snipers Edge stickhandling balls also come with multiple different weights and training objectives, encouraging a player to have eyes up (ice ball), build wrist strength (muscle ball) or fast hands (speed ball).

Both products perform great on a slick surface such as dryland hockey tiles. We encourage you to purchase and train with both!

Will stickhandling balls ruin my expensive hockey stick?

Not a chance! Our stickhandling balls are made from a hardened PVC material, but have a lighter weight than an actual puck. The impact of the balls to the stick is no greater than regular pucks with the stick. Be mindful of the training surface you are using, however, since concrete or asphalt can chew up expensive sticks. Consider using a shooting pad or dryland hockey tiles to train on those surfaces.
