New Year, New Decade, New You!
New Year's is a time to both look back at the years past and forward to the years ahead. The end of a decade and the beginning of a new one makes it an even better time to do so.
The 2010s have been an amazing decade for hockey. The Blackhawks, Bruins, Kings, Penguins, Capitals, and Blues have all lifted the Stanley Cup. Stars like Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin, Patrice Bergeron, and Connor McDavid have dominated on the ice. The NHL even welcomed a new team to the fold this decade, the Las Vegas Golden Knights.
The decade ahead is filled with promise too. A 32nd team will join the bunch with the Seattle team joining in 2021. Young guns like Auston Matthews, Jack Eichel, Brock Boeser and Nathan MacKinnon will try and place their names among the biggest stars. And, every team will start fresh and try to add their names to the Cup in the 2020s.
In the coming decade, these NHL teams along with every team at every level of hockey will be looking for the best talent to put on the ice to try and win whatever trophy they play for and the opportunities for players who strive to be the best will be enormous.
New Year's is also a time for resolutions. For setting a goal for the year or decade to come and putting a plan in place to help you achieve that goal. In 2020, make a resolution that you, or the hockey player in your life, will become the best player they can be and takes their game to the next level.
New Year's resolutions are only successful if they are a team effort. If you are a player, don’t just commit to making yourself better. Commit to your team and help make them the best they can be as well. If you are a parent, commit to your child to help train off-ice. Lead by example, motivate your player, and most importantly, spend time with them.
Striving to keep your resolution and train to be the best hockey player you or your loved one needs to be enjoyable to be effective. Instead of focusing on the results, focus on making memories, bonding, and creating relationships through hard work and the love of hockey and the results will come naturally.
